想先看一眼,也順便看自己排在哪一段:打開 51galatimer.nckuaa-nca.meetflux.ai,房號不用填,身分選「單機」。

1. Two screens at the front, both facing youthe room cannot see them

We put two screens in front of the first row, both turned towards the lectern. The alumni have their backs to them and cannot see what is on them.

Screen ① Your current slide

Mirrors the big screen. You never have to turn round to check where you are.

Time How you are doing

The name of your segment, and one line telling you where you stand.

The time screen deliberately carries no ticking seconds — a moving number only distracts; it does not make anyone speak better. Four states:

President 沈孟儒|From the university
Plenty of time
9 min left

after you start

President 沈孟儒|From the university
Past halfway
5 min left

past the midpoint

President 沈孟儒|From the university
Start wrapping up
2 min left

two minutes left

President 沈孟儒|From the university
Please finish

time is up

A bell marks each change: “Start wrapping up” is a single strike, “Please finish” is three (two on the same note, the last one lower), and it is over within two seconds. After that it stays quiet, and the screen never counts how far over you are — it simply rests on “Please finish”. Watching the seconds is our job, not yours.

If you would rather see the exact time remaining (an mm:ss countdown), just say so — a staff member presses one button on the remote and the screen at the front changes within two seconds. It is set per speaker, so it affects nobody else. If you want only one of the two screens, or neither, tell us that too and we will set the front up the way you are used to working.

To see it for yourself, and to find where you sit in the running order: open 51galatimer.nckuaa-nca.meetflux.ai, leave the room code empty, and choose “Standalone”. It carries the full programme for the day — when your segment starts, how long it runs, who comes before and after you — which helps when you are judging length; you can also watch the front-of-stage screen run for real. You do not have to operate anything; on the day our staff press the buttons.

2. You may ask the room one question, or just open the heartsboth optional

We will be running AhaSlides. Alumni scan a code on the screen with their phone and answer — nothing to download — and the answers appear on the big screen as they arrive.

If you would like one question in your talk, you will have the whole room’s answer in thirty seconds. Four formats:

FormatHow alumni answerGood for
Word cloudOne to three wordsImpressions, feelings, the first word that comes to mind
Single-choice pollOne of four options you writePreferences, trade-offs
Open answerOne sentenceConcrete suggestions, stories
1–5 scaleA number from 1 to 5How strongly they agree

Three things that make a question work

  1. Only the people in the room can answer itIf it can be looked up, there is no point asking.
  2. Answerable in fifteen secondsPeople are eating, and the older alumni have to be able to type it too.
  3. Ask about them, not about you“What would you most like to know?” fills the screen. “How am I doing?” does not.
Which year did you last visit NCKU?Word cloud · three seconds to type, and the generational spread of the room shows up immediately
Which area should NCKU strengthen most?Single-choice poll · four options written by you, the result becomes a bar chart on the spot
What should the alumni association do first?Open answer · the answers feed straight into the business discussion afterwards
One question is enough; it costs about one to two minutes. We suggest putting it at the end — you finish, the question goes up on the big screen, and the alumni answer while watching the results grow. That stretch makes a fine ending in itself. In the middle it breaks your own rhythm.

Not asking a question? You can simply open the hearts

The heart button sits on every alumnus’s phone the whole time, and a tap floats a heart across the big screen as it happens. You do not stop, you do not wait for a result, you do not spend a second on it — when a line lands, you see it land.

All you have to do is ask. Say something near the start like “if a line strikes you later on, tap the heart” — otherwise it does not occur to anyone, and the button just sits there unused. For a shorter slot, or for a speaker who would rather not break off mid-talk, this usually works better than a question.

3. What we need from you

  • One line for your title, plus your department and class year or your current role — we make it into the backdrop behind you. It goes up first, so your own first slide does not need to be a cover
  • One photograph (formal or relaxed, either is fine)
  • If you are using slides, send them to us in advance — PPT, Keynote and PDF are all fine. We do not swap laptops on the day; every speaker’s file is merged into one beforehand and a staff member drives it — just say “next” — or you can hold the clicker yourself
  • If you are asking a question, send us the question, the format, and the options (polls only)

Please send all of the above by Friday, 16 October. We will run everything through at the rehearsal on 24 October. At the opening we walk the whole room through a warm-up — how to join, how to answer, how to tap the heart — so by the time it is your turn everyone already knows how, and you will not have to teach it again. On the day our staff handle all of the operating; you only need to say “please take out your phones” at the right moment.
